Tour at 17:00
The weather had been really nice all day and it continued like that this evening. We decided to go much further out this time to try to find the whales. And it worked. First we spotted a group of White-beaked dolphins, nice group. Then a big group of Harbour porpoises which came very close to us. And finally, two Minke Whales in the same area, very far out, 16.n.m. And all our passengers could have a good look at the animals which surfaced several times in front of our bout. So all together very successful tour.;)
Tour at 13:00
In wonderful weather we headed out again to Faxaflói bay searching for whales. But this tour was not very successful. We were searching for a long time but they were difficult to find. We saw a lot of feeding birds but no whales around, they had all disappeared. On our way back to the harbour we spotted one Minke Whale. It surfaced two times before disappearing, so only some of our passengers could see it. And that was the only whale we spotted on this tour. So we decided to give all our passengers complimentary tickets, so they can come again for a second try.
Tour at 9:00
The weather couldn´t of got better. The sun was out and the sea was mirror calm. We headed offshore and saw a small pod of White-beaked Dolphins and once they headed towards us and you could see them just beneath the water’s surface but mainly they were being little elusive so we only stayed with them a short while. We saw loads of feeding birds in the distance so that’s were we headed and on the way we suddenly spotted a pod of Harbour Porpoises which surfaced many times. There was no whales under the birds so we headed further offshore. We then got a call from another boat telling us of a Humpback Whale near to coast of Reykjavik thus, we were off, on the way we came across a Minke Whale which surfaced as well quite a few times, once only 10 meters from our boat. We then headed to the Humpback Whale. The first time we saw it dive it brought up its tail but from then on it didn´t. Great to see the Humpbacks are now coming to Faxaflói regularly as about 5 has been seen in the last 2 weeks. We then visited Akurey to see the Puffins on the way back to the harbour. Fantastic tour, couldn´t have been better.
