Tour at 13:00

The sky was clear, the sun was out and yet it was freezing. So, even though it is the first day of summer today it sure didn’t feel like it. As we headed offshore we came across a small pod of Harbour Porpoises but they were quite shy and only surfaced a couple of times. The captain then spotted a flock of feeding Kittiwakes and Fulmars in the distance, usually a good sign for seeing Minke Whales however, as we got closer none were seen. It took a while then to spot our first Minke Whale blow and that was all that was seen, just the blow three times before the whale disappeared. We sailed around Faxafloi for some time in hope of seeing another. We were in luck the captain spots a blow, we headed in that direction and suddenly the Minke appeared out of nowhere 12 o’clock, 80 meters from the vessel. Only surfaced once but what a view! As we headed back to the harbour a large pod of Harbour Porpoises were seen, 5-8 of them. They never broke the surface but you could see them surfing the swells. On the way back we also saw one Puffin and two Gannets in the distance. Good tour! Happy first day of summer everyone.

Tour at 09:00

First day of summer was very cold but beautiful, calm sea and the sun was shining. It didn’t take us a long time to find the whales today. After sailing for about 40 minutes we spotted the first Minke Whale. It was always diving for a long time so we went further out. We got to an area with really many seabirds. There we spotted several Minke Whales, some close to us and others further away. A lot of food in the area apparently .We also spotted a small group of Harbour Porpoises. All together it was a very successful tour with at least 7 individuals.
