Tour at 17:00

We started our tour in Lundey, one of the two puffin islands, where we saw many cute puffins! When we sailed further out on the bay it took us some time to find minke whales that were easy to observe. The first couple of whales we spotted were diving a lot, staying under the surface for long periods of time, so they were not very good sightings. Then we spotted a group (4-5) of harbour porpoises, but they also swam away rather quickly. Fortunately we were lucky and found a minke whale that was very cooperative ;) It shallow-dived several times close to us and we were able to observe it quite well. The sea had a lovely green colour this evening and that gave us the added bonus of being able to observe the minke under the surface a couple of times, we could see the "shadow" of it before it came up to the surface and a little while after it dived again. On the way back to the harbour we spotted a couple of minkes more, but they behaved like in the beginning, deep-diving very soon.

Tour at 13:00

All the three minke whales we saw in the afternoon behaved a bit the same. They all were very close to the boat in the beginning but then they dived always quite long and came up further away. We think they were all travelling and searching for food. Our fish finder at least didn't show any food! But still we got some good opportunities to watch them.

Tour at 9:00

There were many whales out there in Faxaflói bay this morning! We spotted at least five to six minke whales on this tour. The first two were the best! We stayed a longer time with them and watched them coming up to breath close to the boat. There were some feeding birds, too. That showed us that there was some food at the surface, the minke whales and the birds were feeding there together. Later we found two more but one changed immediately direction and went away. The other one was at least close in the beginning but dived always a long time. It looked like that they were travelling and searching for food.
