Report from Hafsúlan: after three days of cancellations due to storm, we found it would be safe to go out on the water today but to play extra safe and more comfortable we decided to go from Keflavik and sail towards Hafnarfjörður. It was southern wind so this would ensure us some cover from land but we knew there would be some swell as a result of the stormy weekend. We departed Keflavik harbour and first went northwest alongside
Garðskagi Peninsula until it got too wavy at its top where it opens up into the North Atlantic. Then we turned the boat and went east in the direction of Hafnarfjörður, scanning the water north of Vatnsleysuströnd coastline on the Reykjanes Peninsula. It waspleasant to see the number of northern gannets on the water today, they might be gearing up for the herring run that hopefully will arrive within not too long and we know from experience should be followed by a number of whales. However, today there were none around. We thought we might have seen one blow and we looked very carefully to try to see another one but nothing came out of the search so we continued our journey to Hafnarfjörður. There we provided the passengers with complimentary return tickets so that they can join us for another whale-watching tour, then free of charge, in the hope that then they will see what we would have loved to show them today.
