Report from Hafsúlan: After a stormy day yesterday it was nice to actually get out on the water today. The sea was not rough, just a rolling swell which caused a few faces to go green but mostly everyone had fun. We sailed south past the light house grotta but after an hour and a half we heard from our other whale watching boat that was out doing a special tour that they spotted some white-beaked dolphins close, more towards the north. We turned around and headed their way. They were great dolphins, a pod of 6-8 animals. They were traveling fast to begin with but then they slowed down to a rest, they let us come close and we got many memorable pictures of them and very good ones for the photo identification research Elding is involved in. A wonderful morning.

Report from Hafsúlan: the wind was getting much stronger than it had been this morning and the swells more difficult to sail in. we had not been out for long when we heard news from another whale watching boat that they had spotted some white beaked dolphins! But when we arrived they had sadly disappeared. We searched for them for some time but finally decided to go further out on the bay, it was getting more rocky so we traveled very slowly around. On our way back to Reykjavik we spotted at least two dolphins that came up few times in front of the boat but we lost sites of them shortly. We were giving up hope to get a good look at any cetacean on the tour and started to hand out complimentary tickets so our passengers could have a second chance with us. Then suddenly we saw 5-6 white beaked dolphins on the left side of the boat. Luckily for us we got really good look at them that time. They came few times very close to the boat giving us a really good look at their whole bodies’ when they swam right under the surface.
