Tour at 13:00
Report from Eldey: It was a beautiful but cold afternoon on the bay. Easterly winds meant that we felt the most of it on the way home. Plenty types of birds joined us on our tour including numerous sooty shearwaters, a lot more we have seen this year to previous years, a stunning bird to watch gliding on the strong air currents. Very graceful. Amongst a flock of these a pod of 5-7 harbour porpoises were seen surfacing fast in the suns glare, rays picking up on the splashes as they came up to breath. They go by so fast so its always hard to track them. We left and after a while longer we found a pod of 3-4 white-beaked dolphins. Everyone got a chance to see them but they were also difficult, frequently changing direction. Had to be concentrating well to keep up with them. However, they too just disappeared and so we traveled home, enjoying the landscape as we did so.
Birds seen on this tour: northern fulmar, northern gannet, black legged kittiwake, black headed gull, black-backed gull, iceland gull, eider ducks, sooty shearwater, common guillemots, red breasted merganser and razorbills.
