Report from Eldey: This afternoon the wind had died down from the morning tour and we headed out onto Faxa bay in the beautiful afternoon sun. Sailing with mount Esja on our right hand side we had good cover from the north easterly winds with excellent visibility. All in all fantastic whale watching conditions. We got off to a fast start, seeing a blow in front of us in the distance after only about 45 minutes of sailing. We got closer and saw that it was a humpback whale! This individual was very calm, surfacing lazily and bringing up its tail, or fluke, very slowly. It surfaced quite close to us on a few occasions and we could see the large white pectoral fins just underneath the surface. After this encounter we searched for a while longer for other cetaceans and then headed back to harbour. On the way back we raffled off 5 big Easter eggs for lucky passengers and we hope they enjoyed them.

Report from Eldey: A beautiful morning with sunshine and some wind. The travel out was with the wind in our back so we could enjoy the sunshine and work on our Icelandic tan. We scouted towards the south because we had tips of whale blows in that area. Soon we discovered a minke whale close to the boat. We had it surfacing around 3-4 times and one time really close to the boat. When the minke surfaced in front of us we spotted a big blow in the distance.. It was a humpback whale! This young humpback was very good to look at and it seemed to be feeding in the area. It fluked several times bringing the tail or fluke out of the water. With the city of Reykjavík in the background this observation was really good. We stayed a long time with this humpback and we also got a second minke whale passing by. We returned to harbor and while we traveled back we had a Easter egg lottery onboard and a few lucky passengers went home with big chocolate Easter eggs!

Bird species seen on todays tours include: northern gannet. northern fulmar, shag, black guillemot, glaucous gull, Iceland gull, greater black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, kittiwake, herring gull, common gull, long-tailed duck and eider duck.
