Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Since we ended in Hafnarfjörður on the morning tour this was the starting point for the afternoon tour. We could sail out with the wind straight for the area with the humpback whales from the morning. Again we soon found two humpbacks together (most likely the same ones) and they gave us the same amazing show as on the morning tour. Busy feeding further down they surfaced constantly right next to our boat. We didn't even got to move because the whales always came up to our boat (they probably liked our red and shiny boat)! It was probably one more humpback in the area because sometimes blows were seen infront of us. At the end we got short glimpses of a minke whale, but it was difficult following it in the stormy weather. We ended the tour once again in Hafnarfjörður after a very successful day out whale watching!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was more wind today than yesterday when we sailed out from Reykjavík old harbour. Once again we took a southern course towards the area with the humpback whales lately. On our way we first located a minke whale when we had rounded Grottá lighthouse. It came out with big blows in the rough weather, we usually don't see the blows from minke whales but this one gave out blows. It surfaced a couple of times infront of us so we managed to get good views of it. After this encounter we found the humpback whales again! First an individual that went often for deeper dives and was difficult to see good. But soon we had two humpbacks feeding together. These two whales were the best! They came right up to our boat and surfaced only meters from us on several occasions. So cool to see these animals coming to us and not at all minding about our presence. We kept the boat absolutely still and could enjoy these two humpbacks on really close quarters! Some passengers could even feel the blow from the whale on their faces. This was one of those encounters that will be hard to forget! We ended the tour in Hafnarfjörður.
