We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. The wind is coming from the South and the sun is shining. There could be some movement on the boat out on Faxa Bay.

Report from Eldey: The weather was still clear and the sea condition still fine when we left the harbour but we could already feel the wind picking up. It took us a while before we could encounter our first cetaceans but we eventually ended up meeting an impressive pod of more than twenty white-beaked dolphins. The animals were very active and we could see them leaping and breaching out of the surface. They were also very sociable and went to visit us close to the boat on several occasions. In the middle of the mayhem a minke whale showed up unexpectedly right in front of the boat! Unfortunately it dived very soon after and no one saw it again. After enjoying the dolphin show for a few longer we had to head back. The wind was now very strong and the swell much higher but some of us managed to see two harbour porpoises bursting in front of the boat as we arrived close to Reykjavik.

Report from Eldey: We sailed out with beautiful weather, very sunny and not too much wind. After about 45 min sailing we spotted splashes in the distance. It was a group of about 6 Atlantic white beaked dolphins. The animals were great coming to bow ride and giving us great views. When we decided to carry on we spotted a minke whale, it surfaced three times, once very close to the boat but we did not manage to see it again. In the meantime we were joined by about 12 white beaked dolphins. This group spread out all around the boat and started jumping around, it was amazing. On our way back we were treated to views of a group of around 15 harbour porpoises. This was quite special because often we encounter porpoises in small groups and they tend to be elusive, but these animals came up a number of times close to the boat. Then as a last surprise we had a minke whale coming up right in front of the boat as we were approaching Reykjavik.

Bird species seen on today's tours: northern fulmar, Manx shearwater, common guillemot, northern gannet, great cormorant, common eider, glaucous gull, black-legged kittiwake and black-headed gull.
