Tour at 13:00
Report from Eldey: It was a fairly calm day as we sailed out into the bay, the sky was blue and the sun shining (quite a rare occurrence in an Icelandic winter). It was a very pleasant sail out into faxafloi as the wind was at our backs and the swell not to high. During the tour we encountered some wonderful bird life including razorbill, common guillemot and northern gannets, who really stole the spotlight of the tour. After a vigorous search unfortunately no cetaceans appeared. However, the northern gannets decided to put on quite a show and stun us with their brilliant plunge diving feeding technique. This is where they fly high up into the sky and spot the fish they wish to eat and then suddenly dive straight into the water reaching speeds of up to 100km an hour. It was really spectacular to watch and a large flock of 20 birds were doing this in quick succession. What a beautiful experience! As we were unable to see whales or dolphins today we offered our passengers complimentary tickets so they can come on another one of our tours for free.
