Report from Elding: This tour was unfortunately proofing how fast conditions can change from one day to the other here in Iceland. Just before we left the harbour it started raining. When we were still in the shelter of the land we saw a very quick surface of a minke whale, which was unfortunately only seen by the one lucky person standing in the very front of the boat and the crew. Sadly this was not only the first but also the last sign of a cetacean on this tour. As also the wind picked up a lot during the tour and it was raining continuously, the most of our passengers spend the time inside wrapped in blankets and having some hot drinks. Thus, we offered complementary tickets to all our passengers, hoping we will see them again in more favorable conditions.

Report from Eldey: The overalls were put to very good use on our tour today with almost all of the passengers wearing them! It was a little bit rainy but the conditions were fairly good, with only a bit of wind and only a little swell. It took us a long time to find the animals today. The first cetacean to be spotted was a minke whale which came up in a lovely surface sequence. Unfortunately, this minke did not surface again so it was decided to head further out into the bay to see if we could find something else, and we did, yet another minke! Again this minke was a bit difficult to watch so we headed further out into the bay and after a bit more searching we found a wonderful pod of 6 white-beaked dolphins. They were awesome! not only were they showing us some fantastic herding, rolling and feeding behaviors but they were jumping and leaping out of the water!! So incredible to watch, well worth being late back. They also could be seen swimming right under the waters surface, what a fantastic end to a rather wet tour.

Report from Hafsulan: It was a nice Icelandic summer day, windy and rain. But the sea was nice and calm. When we left the harbour it took a bit of time before we found our first cetaceans. But than we saw a minke whale. He was traveling in one direction so it was easy to follow him and we could almost guess where he would come up again, so nice. After spending some time with the minke we left him and not much later we found an other minke whale. This one came very close to the boat we could also hear the blow! Awesome.

Report from Hafsulan: I guess the weather can't spoil us all the time. Still, the conditions were just fine, little wind and only light rain that shouldn't have disturbed anyone as of course everyone had the opportunity to wear one of our overalls. This tour started very differently than usual, with two minke whales just outside the harbour near the island Videy. One of the individuals was moving around the area, surfacing randomly, sometimes closer and sometimes further from the boat. While it was easy to watch as we could often hear it exhale before it showed it's body, it was difficult to photograph as it was moving quickly. We decided to head further out into the areas where we usually go and encountered a pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins. First they kept coming closer and closer, even leaping out of the water for a time but then they decided to keep on traveling and disappeared. All the cetaceans that had gotten us so excited during the first half of the tour left us anticipating for the second half, but it ended up being a quiet second half through the bay of Faxafloi.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. The forecast predicts more wind in the afternoon and it could start raining. But we provide warm overalls on board our ships and we have an inside area as well. If you are sensitive for motion sickness we offer sea sickness tablets free of charge.
