Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: It wasn't as bad as the previous tour when we left the harbour, but the rain soon came and obstructed our view of quite a bit of our surroundings. After sailing for about an hour we saw two large blows, likely belonging to humpback whales but sadly they never showed. While we approached their vicinity we had a minke whale appear a couple of times before it too vanished on us. But on the bright side w did have a small pod of 3 harbour porpoises come very close to the boat which was lovely. The tempermental weather got worse as the trip went on, with periodic showers and big gusts. Due to the lack of sightings we handed out compliementary tickets.

Report from Eldey: An emotional tour for me, being the final tour I was working as a naturalist for Elding after one year and a half. Weather was nice for the first half of the tour, and after that a light rain was pouring  now and then. The sea conditions to spot the cetaceans today were really good but unfortunately it wasn't after one hour that we encounter our first and last species of the tour, the white beaked dolphins. A pod of 6-8 individuals were clearly feeding over the area we were sailing. They surprised us sometimes with some shy jumpings, that they were surely using in order to stunt the fish they were feeding on. After this enjoyable time with the dolphins we had to head back to the harbour, thus ending this last tour of mine. I will use this final diary to thank all the passengers throughout the year that made this experience an unforgettable one. And the whales and dolphins, of course. All the credit belong to these marvelous giants of the sea.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Today we have had a real Viking experience sailing the brave seas of the north Atlantic. We had rough seas due to the strong wind coming from the east, but we only suffered from that in our way back home, so we enjoyed a great sailing during most of the tour. Today, our main aim was to look for seabirds, previous days have been great in seabirds because of the amount of fish in the bay and we did! Northern gannets and gulls were extremely active and we followed them to find cetaceans. The species that we have found today was the white-beaked dolphins, they were two pods of 6-7 individuals and they were clearly feeding and making splashes, a distinctive characteristic of hunting technique. After enjoying this show, we went back to the harbour, facing the rough seas  and feeling like real Vikings.
