Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: I don´t know what I was enjoying the most on this tour, the wildlife or the incredible weather. Great weather in Iceland is a rare thing but in october makes it more special. There was fine rain for the start of the tour but it soon cleared and the scenery of seeing the rain fall in the distance and the sun´s rays fighting through the dark clouds was beautiful. A rainbow also showed itself. Just leaving the ahrbour we got to see a few pods of harbour porpoises, feeding around the islands of Akureyri and Engey. There must have been at least 10-15 of them. Sea conditions were minimal as we headed out into the bay, almost like a mirror. Easy to spot the numerous white-beaked dolphins at least 5 scattered pods with at least 30 in total, last being a pod of about 10-15. They were travelling slowly and going for deep, long dives but amazing to see in the calm ocean. Last but not least a minke whale, surfaced many times and even starated surface feeding at one stage. In the end we thought there was two minke whales in the area but never had the opportunity to know for sure. It was an incredible day!

Tour at 9:00

Report from Eldey: It didn´t look like October at all. From early morning we enjoyed sunshine, calm wind and flat sea. Few clouds above land only make landscape looks better. We had perfect spotting conditions so it wasn´t surprise that very fast we found our first cetaceans. In fact, it would be hard to miss it, as white-beaked dolphins were jumping high above water surface. It was pod of around 8 individuals. When we came closer they only did not stop jumping but even approached us with curiosity, swimming around us and taking dives under our boat. It was great! Soon more boats arrived so we decided to go further to not stress this animals. But just few minutes later we found another smaller pod of this dolphins. Again, after awesome encounter we started looking for something else. Next was minke whale, which at the beginning was a little bit elusive but at the end it surfaced few times less then 20m from boat so we had opportunity to take good photos. On the way back, close to the harbour we found pod of 6-10 harbour porpoises which were feeding under flock of small sea birds. Today even porpoises were friendly and our passengers could easy take photos of them and that very rare!
