Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather hadn't changed from this morning. We did have a few sprinkles of rain every now and again but nothing that could actually be called rain - at least not in Iceland. We needed longer to find the animals on this tour. After nearly 2 hours of sailing we encountered a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins that were feeding together with some northern gannets. Upon our arrival they changed their behaviour and interacted with us for a short time, also doing some leaps over waves. They did a clear turn of direction as soon as they got tired of us, however, which we fully respected and thus moved on. Shortly after, we spotted a minke whale, also feeding. It was a very large individual which was clearly visible when it surfaced only 30 meters in front of us. After staying with this minke for a while, we had to turn around to the Old Harbour, seeing yet another minke whale on our way back. Patience is a virtue - that clearly showed in this tour, which ended up being wonderful.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Elding: We left the harbour with an overcast sky this morning and a little wind from the east. After sailing out for an hour, a pod of white-beaked dolphins (5 individuals) appeared. At some point, some of them came very close to the boat, sliding underneath the waves our boat created, bow riding. After having observing them for a while a minke whale appeared only a few meters away from the dolphins! While it was a brief encounter with the minke whale, as it was shy and it was time for us to sail back towards Reykjavik, we were quite happy with our sightings this morning.

Birds seen today: Eider ducks, common guillemots, northern gannets, black headed gulls, kittiwakes, lesser blacked back gulls.

Status: RUNNING

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. The forecast for today says it could be some rain from time to time but we have heated indoor areas on board but we also have overalls to keep you warm out on deck. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our tour!
