Report from Eldey: A very nice start to Christmas Eve with an influx of passengers this afternoon, we were able to go out with a full boat. The sea conditions were also great, a huge difference from yesterday´s conditions that cancelled the tour. As we left the harbour a long line of great cormorants and european shags stood along the sea wall. It took us a while to see life and found an area in the bay where birds were more abundant and 2 pods of harbour porpoises could be found. At least 7-10 in total, they could be watched popping up from time to time, we tried our best to follow these little guys but they can be difficult at the best of times. We also got to see a nice array of seabirds; glaucous gulls, iceland gulls, black-backed gulls, common guillemots, snow buntings, little auk and a northern gannet. Alas, no larger cetaceans were encountered so we offered our passengers complimentary tickets to come again for free in the next two years. We arrived back at the harbour with a thin fresh layer of snow which ended the tour on a nice christmasy feel.
