Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: This tour was one of those very special tours you only get in winter once in a while: The temperatures were around minus 4 degrees but it did not feel so cold as there was almost no wind. The sea was totally calm and the visibility cound not have been better. And just a few minutes after leaving the harbor, when everyone had put on a warm overall and found a good spot on the top deck, we were pleased with a big pod of about 25-30 white-beaked dolphins. They were spread out all around us and were really fun to watch most likely hunting altogether. Among them there were also some females with their offspring. After enjoying these dolphins for quite some time we just started to head further out in the bay when we got a call from another vessel that spotted a killerwhale. Spotting killerwhales, also known as orcas, is a very rare sighting here in Faxafloi and most of the time only happens in winter. When we approached the area we found a big male orca and a little further away a pod of another 4-7 individuals which were resting. While we did not want to disturb the resting whales we had some really great looks at the big male allowing us to take some good pictures. But that was still not the end of this fantastic tour. Further out in the bay, we also got to enjoy a beautiful humpback whale. We saw it surfacing a couple of times in less than 100m to our boat and everyone will agree that watching this giant was the end of a tour we will all alway remember.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 13:00. There will be some movement on the boat, and we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office. Today is also very cold, so do not be shy to make use of our warm overalls.
