Status: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Snowfall was our welcoming in our today's afternoon trip, five minutes later a bright sun was blinding us: what a good taste of the crazy Icelandic weather! We were facing brave seas, living a real Viking experience, but our persistence was rewarded. From out of nowhere, we spotted a pod of 4-5 white-beaked dolphins! We haven't seen them for some weeks so our surprise and happiness was enormous! They were swimming with us for 20 min, surfacing very close and giving us a taste of their huge size. Later on, we continued our trip surrounded by a lot of seabirds, with special mention to big flocks of great cormorants and northern fulmars, The way back was smooth and we enjoyed a fantastic view of Engey, Videy and Reykjavik coastline.

Report from Eldey: Today's turn of events made our trip look like a Viking baptism rather than just a nature expedition! Even before passing Grota we faced some swell that added some bumps to our cruising. Even though the rough North Atlantic Ocean caused some green faces, there was also on board people happy to take the challenge head on. Despite the shaky seas, we had also some sun in the tour alternating with snow, so we always were kept on our toes. Once we turned back the boat, we had the waves aiming the same direction than us, from here the ride was much more comfortable. Sadly we did not get much more than some northern fulmars and cormorants alongside with roller-coaster ocean to occupy the excursion, so we issued complimentary tickets to any guest willing to give it another try.

Bird species seen on today's tour: great cormorant, northern fulmar, common guillemot, eider duck, icelandic gull, northern gannet and lesser black-backed gull
