Report from Eldey:Although the wind had picked up a little since the morning tour we didn´t feel it as we sailed with the wind. On our way to the humpback whales we passed by at least 3 pods of harbour porpoises, 10 in total. It was easy to spot the humpback whales from a great distance, especially because two of them did a few full body breaches out of the water! The humpbacks had spread over a large area, so this time we had to choose which ones we wanted to follow. We spent most of the tour with a couple of humpbacks which kept lunge feeding and often very close to the boat. A pod of 5 white beaked dolphins swam past while we were close to the humpback whales. Soon after we left this active area we spotted a minke whale which surfaced between a large flock of northern gannets. The way back felt cold, we sailed into the wind and rain so most of the passengers chose to seek shelter in the warm saloons on the boat.

Report from Eldey: It started as a sunny morning when we were about to sail out into the bay. Still some clouds covered the sky but with the wind on our backs and a really flat sea, we were prosperous that this would be again a great day to spot cetaceans. Going over the surrounding landscape we met a pot of 5-6 harbour porpoises and almost at the same time a minke whale surfaced really close to us! We stayed in the area and could spot at least 3 individuals, maybe even a 4th individual. After spotting them more rarely we decided to move on as we spotted another pot of 4-5 harbour porpoises. Right at this time we could make out blows further out were we headed to. All the way there we could see their big and strong blows and upon reaching the area 3 humpback whales where lung feeding really close to the boat and 1 or 2 individuals being further away. The humpbacks did not care about our presence so it was really easy to see this unique behaviour close up being able to take some great pictures and videos. Unfortunately by the time we were already far out at sea and had to head back. This was a really impressive and amazing tour, leaving us speechless!

Bird species seen on today's tours include: Northern gannet, northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, lesser black-backed gull, black headed gull, common guillemot, Atlantic puffin, eider duck.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. There is some wind and swells out on Faxabay so if you are sensitive to motion sickness we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office. All our boats have inside and outside areas and to make the tour even more comfortable we provide warm overalls.
