Status: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Elding: The sailing was lovely this afternoon, not too much wind and calm sea. It was a bit drizzly through the tour, however, this just meant we could use our overalls to keep us nice and dry. It didn´t take us long to find our first cetacean, a minke whale popped up a few times followed by the most wonderful pod of porpoises i´ve probably ever seen. They were slowly circling the boat, coming up fairly close and so many times which was just incredible for this normally shy species. As we were viewing these awesome animals a large blow was spotted in the distance so we headed towards it and found a humpback whale. This animal was just epic, it was lunging and feasting on the small fish. Lunging out of the water with its mouth wide open and rolling allowing us to view it´s pink belly. Surfacing just meters from the boat!  And to top it off more minkes whales on the way back. What an incredible tour!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Elding: It was a typical spring day in Reykjavík, strong wind, and light rain. The sailing out on the bay was smooth as we traveled with the wind. The bay is visibly bursting of food and so many sea birds have flocked into the bay for the feast. Underneath one of these active flocks we spotted a blow of a humpback whale! We witnessed the most incredible and possibly the most exciting feeding behaviour in the area this year! The whale circled in front of the boat, and every third time it surfaced the whale came up with the mouth wide open, so we could see the baleen and fish in its mouth! It often rolled on the surface, bringing its fluke and flippers out of the water. All around us were birds diving into the water, mostly kittiwakes and northern gannets. It was easy to forget the wind and rain in the company of such majestic animals! Although we spotted two other humpbacks not so far away we decided to stay put and enjoy the show until heading back to land. I can´t wait to be out on the water again tomorrow!
