Tour status: RUNNING

Tour at 20:30

Report from Elding: We sailed out on overcast sky, the sunlight shining a little through the clouds into a calm bay. We kept looking for cetaceans over one and a half hours as suddenly a few harbour porpoises surfaced quite close to our boat. Being very elusive, we just saw them 2-3 times resurfacing but at the same time a minke whale crossed our path. Unfortunately also this individual was quite elusive, so we just saw it a few times surfacing. We kept on looking for more cetaceans as we got a call from another boat and encountered there another minke whale which kept surfacing repeatedly. It was a bit of a challenging tour but at the end everyone got a quite good idea of our minke whales.

Report from Eldey: Another nice weather tour today... we couldn't ask for better since this summer continues to be very scarce with sunlight. This has proven to be a rather challenging tour.
We sailed out for an hour and a half looking for cetaceans. We did see one very cheerful harbour porpoise that was porpoising close to the boat, but enough time passed by to make a guide nervous. Finally! A blow in the distance... Moving the vessel closer... and then silence. Waiting. It was nerve wrecking. After a lot of waiting, we at last had our beautiful moment with the animal. It was a minke whale. It surfaced almost a dozen of times, sometimes even 20 m away. We managed to have a sighting from all kinds of angles which allowed for some nice sun lit photos. After a lot of patience, a superb tour.

Report from Hafsulan: It was close to a perfect summer day, if not for a few grouchy clouds. As we are dealing with wildlife, some tours can be a bit more challenging than others, but more times than not, our patience and persistence always pays up. As the crew was intensively scanning the area on the lookout for these animals, we finilly found a humpback whale! This one seemed to be on a grumpy mood, however we were able to fallow it and observe it for a few times. It even resurfaced quite close to our vessel! Another mission accomplished by Elding!

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out of the harbour, happy that there is a few rays of sun peaking thorough the clouds. It didn't take us long to to spot our first cetaceans of the trip. A group of 6-8 friendly white-beaked dolphins was happily swimming around our boat. What was very special to see is the calf that was in the group, as it must have been only days old. Next we managed to observe an animal that was eluding us at the beginning of the tour. And boy, what an entrance! The whale jumped out of the surface and made a huge splash. Later we determined that it was a young humpback whale that even came close to the boat so we could have a look at the damaged back of the animal, which was probably caused by a propellor. This reminds of the dangers that these beautiful animals are facing in a human dominated world.

Tour at 10:00

Report from Hafsulan: We left the harbour going directly to our best sighting grounds. It didn't take us too long to find the first big flock of seabirds feeding. We stopped the boat and looked all around and started to see one minke whale after the other, probably 7-8 individuals. Some where being really elusive, others feeding really close by! Suddenly we even saw a big blow as there was a humpback whale in the area. Also this animal started to join the feeding frenzy, unfortunately it left again but the minke whales stole the show! What an amazing tour :)

Tour at 9:00

Report from Eldey: We left the old harbour under cloudy skies but with very little wind. We didn't have to wait very long before we had our first encounter with a minke whale! It surfaced a couple of times, very close to the boat before going for a deeper dive. We eventually lost the minke and had to continue our search further into the bay. We found a pod of at least 7 white-beaked dolphins that stayed with the boat for a little while before continuing on their way, while a minke whale continued to circle around the boat, further away. Once we had left the pod of dolphins, we continued moving forward and found a humpback whale that surfaced several times around the boat as well. Overall a really fun tour with lots of different sightings!
