Tour Status: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan and Elding: We had a busy afternoon today, with 180 passengers joining us we had to use two boats to offer more comfort on these cold winter days. We were very lucky on our tour this afternoon with a variety of birdlife and white-beaked dolphins and a humpback whale. Very special. The white-beaked dolphins were the first to be encountered, a pod of maybe 6-8 scattered dolphins that were playing around our vessel and leaping in the distance. It is always an incredible moment when a wild animal wants to play. After a little while we left the dolphins and traveled further a field. Suddenly the captain spotted a blow and a humpback whale popped up half a mile ahead. Seemed relaxed with us to begin with but with many boats in the area we saw it changing behaviour and we felt it was disturbed so we left the area and the whale in peice to continue our adventure. The winter light, sunset colours and the beautiful landscape was also a big part of why we had a lot of fun this afternoon. A wonderful day.

Birds seen on the tour today include; iceland gulls, glaucous gulls, black-headed gulls, black-backed gulls, eider ducks, long-tailed ducks, razorbills, cormorants, possibly little auks and possible snow buntings but the later was to quick and far to confirm.

We are running our whale watching tour at 13:00 today, from the old harbour in Reykjavík.
