Report from Eldey: Our daily tour of today took us to explore the area around Reykjavik and its most famous fjord, Kollafjordur. The landscape looked simply beautiful as all the mountains were covered by a thick snow layer due to the snowfall that we have had in the capital. We realized very soon that the sea was blooming with life because in less than 15 minutes we spotted a pod of 3-4 harbour porpoises swimming in between the waves. Birdlife was incredible as well as we could witness a lot of feeding behavior from our air companions. But the best part was the humpback whale which was waiting in the mouth of the little fjord. This huge animal encircled us for a while as we were standing over the focus of its attention, a big school of fish. For our amusement, this whale was lunge feeding several times so we could see its gigantic mouth out of the water while it was trying to trap fish. After enjoying this experience, we sailed back to the port with a big smile in our faces.
