Report from Hafsulan: The swell diminished a bit from previous tour, meaning that the sea was getting calmer. Almost no wind and very enjoyable weather conditions were our companions in our afternoon trip. We headed to the area where we spotted previously some whales and we were proven to be right. We had waiting for us 2 minke whales. One of them was slightly smaller than the other but curious in spirit as it got close to the boat several times. In the way back we were carried by the waves so we were kindly pushed toward Reykjavik after a great trip in Faxafloi.

Report from Hafsulan: Yesterday a violent storm hit Iceland but today weather was perfect. Wind was gone and our boat smoothly was bouncing on waves. It's amazing to start day watching sunrise above Reykjavik and look at this city from different perspective. We took direction towards southern side of the bay but there was not much going on. After almost 2 hours of sailing we found what we were looking for. Huge flocks of birds and when we came closer a minke whale surfaced on our way. It was one of two minke whales which were in that area. It was challenging to follow two fast animals but we were able to have few close encounters with them. We were also happy to discover that one of those minkes was an individual which was seen as a first minke whale in 2019, two weeks ago. Hopefully he will stay in safe water of Faxafloi all summer.

Birds seen during our tours: eider duck, red-breasted merganser, northern fulmar, northern gannet, great black-backed gull, black-legged kittiwake, razorbill, common guillemot, european shag, great cormorant.
We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. As it was very windy yesterday there is a strong undercurrent so there is some movement out on the boat, If you are prone to getting seasick, we do have seasickness tablets free of charge. It is always colder on sea than on land so make sure to make use of our warm overalls. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000
