Report from Eldey: Vikings don't know fear and we neither. It was a bit windy morning but we were resolute to explore Faxafloi as the sightings had been excellent last days and today it wasn't an exception. We were about to pass the lighthouse of Grotta when a dark figure caught our attention. Intrigued, we took a look and we discovered a huge male of Orca, a very conspicuous species. We barely see this species in Faxafloi and we knew they are never coming alone, that's why we scanned the surrounding area and we spotted more of them, a total of 4 Orcas: 2 males, 1 females and 1 little recently-born calf (the eyespots were still yellowish, a color that it is usually retain up to the first year). They were swimming around us, patrolling the bay, diving underneath our boat several times, it was a great pleasure to be surrounded by these animals. Once we had enough of them (if that is even possible), we sailed towards Reykjavik surrounded by puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes and eiders. The morning couldn't have been better!

Birds seen during our tour: eider duck, northern fulmar, atlantic puffin, black guillemot, northern gannet, black-legged kittiwake, great black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, great skua, oystercatcher.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 9:00. We might experience some rough seas today, so if you are prone to seasickness, we have seasickness tablets free of charge. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000
