20:30   TOUR ON SCHEDULE ✔

Report from Eldey: Hold on to your hats guys so they don't get blown away! Tonight again proved that the forecast in Iceland can't always be trusted, sometimes mother nature just decides to change her mind spontaneously. So as we sailed out along the Reykjanes peninsula, we were facing increasing winds that the seabirds were just enjoying so much to glide in. Dressed up in overalls, we braced the blowing breeze and everyone kept their eyes on the waters around. After a bit more than an hour, we got a glimpse of a whale surfacing at less than 50 meters from our boat so we immediately slowed down and waited for a good quarter of an hour for it to resurface. Sadly, it remained a shy whale and with the one quick sighting we could not determine the species with certainty. We moved on, sailing across the bay and letting the waves push us towards Snaefellsness. Despite clouds pulling together and covering most of the sky, we enjoyed some parts being coloured in a sunset red as we sailed back to the harbour. As wildlife remained quiet during our tour tonight, all our guests were offered a complimetary ticket for another return trip with us within the next 2 years to hopefully not only enjoy the incredible scenery that the bay has to offer but also it's marine life.

  TOUR ON SCHEDULE  17:00

Report from Eldey: The wind picked up a bit during this tour, but the rain stop, so it was still quite a pleasant ride. Nevertheless, unfortunately it was not possible to see any whales or dolphins during this tour. The crew made its best into trying to find the animals, but as wild animals, they can be quite challenging to spot sometimes. However, as our company wants to make sure everybody gets an opportunity to see the whales, we offered all our passengers complementary tickets, so that they can comeback again with us on another whale watching tour for free.

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather stabilized after the 10' o'clock tour and we had a good opportunity to do some dry whale watching. It didn't take us even half an hour before we encountered a juvenile humpback whale. It was showing the fluke tail every time it went down for a deep dive, so we could take the "money shot". At the end it decided to break the diving record for humpbacks... We waited 20 minutes for it to resurface, but it didn't, so we left. It wasn't that bad that we left, because we next spotted a pod of 10-15 white-beaked dolphins. They were in a good mood and we could stay a while with these animals as well. The Bay has been good to us.

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE|  13:00

Report from Eldey: Apart from a light rain, flat seas and calm winds made this tour quite enjoyable. Our first sighting took place much sooner than anticipated. Around 15 minutes after we left the harbour we saw a humpback whale close to Engey, one the puffins’ breeding islands. It was an amazing surprise as humpbacks have not been seen in Faxaflói bay for a while. We were able to observe this beautiful angel from the sea for quite a long while as it was foraging. Later on, before heading back to the harbour we saw a pod of around 7 white beaked dolphins feeding as well. Another great tour with Elding!

Report from Hafsúlan: We had quite a lot of rain on this tour but the sea conditions were just perfect, so calm! We went out in search for some cetaceans, and after sailing for a while we saw a pod of around 5-7 harbour porpoises. We saw them quite well but they were very elusive and disappeared soon. We went further out and found another pod of 3-4 harbour porpoises very close to us. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in finding other species and so we decided to give our lovely passengers a chance to come on another tour for free. But we still enjoyed this tour, sailing on a perfectly flat sea and seeing some porpoises!

✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE|  9:00

Report from Eldey: This tour was under a constant light rain and it was impossible to see the landscape, but the sea was really flat and not windy so it was still a nice day for whale watching. Covered by our overalls, our passengers could stay warm outside. We tried our best looking for whales during the three hours and found a small pod of 2-3 harbour porpoises. We also encountered several interesting seabirds like the atlantic puffin, the northern gannet, the manx shearwater, or the common guillemot. Because we couldn't give to our passengers a proper sight of whales we offered them the opportunity to come back for a new free tour in the next two years in Reykjavik or in Akureyri, giving them our complementary tickets.
