Report from Eldey: Incredible northern lights tonight! Cold air, fairly clear skies and a lot of stars shining above us as we sailed out to Faxafloi bay. There were a few clouds but luckily very clear skies over the snowy mountains Esja and Akrafall, in the direction of the magnetic North and where the northern lights typically first appear. This was just perfect conditions for spotting any Auroras and in fact, very soon we already started seeing a faint green arch forming over Mt Esja. We didn't need to wait for much longer as the arch kept strenghtening in color and intensity and also getting even longer and streching across the whole night sky in front of our eyes. Eventually the whole sky started turning  and pink with multiple arches, patches and ribbon-like lines "dancing" ! The show of Auroras was simply unbelievable -so much more than we ever would have expected based on the already promising forecast. Definitely one of the best northern lights shows of the whole season!
