PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 1O:OO

Report from þruma II: This morning the sea was rough, the visibility was good and the beautiful sun glimpsed through the clouds. We went out to sea warmly dressed with overalls and to enjoy an adventure in the Faxaflói bay. The views today were spectacular, the whale fjord showed snowy mountains and the views of the mountains of Snæfellsnes was exceptional. Unfortunately the wind did not abate and the animals were not there, so we decided to offer a complementary ticket to our passengers so they have the opportunity to also enjoy such special creatures as cetaceans.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Elding : Another sunny day with a cold but not to harsh wind coming from the east. The sea was choppy without making the boat rocky, and if the visibility was great on the landscape, the white caps made the spotting difficult. We first found a pod of 5-7 white-beaked dolphin that came around the boat, bow-riding, very curious and friendly. We observed them for a while and we wanted to go in another area they followed us so we continued enjoying there joyful presence. Patrolling around we saw in total 3 minke whales, but they were all challenging to spot and we could not stay with them. During the way back we a amazing surprise with 2 humpback whales, one being very active, peduncle slapping, pectoral slapping and doing beautiful fluke dives. Two minutes before we had to leave, one of the humpbacks breached right in front of us !! Breathtaking. We came back with a smile on our face.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Elding : It was still a very pleasant tour this afternoon with similar conditions, maybe more wind. We went in the same areas and we spotted from a few miles away a big blow. We were on the direction of this blow when we found a pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins. There were with a young calf and elusive in the beginning. But after a while more groups of dolphins arrived doing some small jumps and getting more curious about our boat, coming bow-riding and under the boat, on the left, on the right, we did not know were to watch. In total I would say there were around 20 white-beaked dolphins. We were observing a few ones in front when we saw that we had at least 7 other dolphin in the back jumping in the same time repeteadly ! A great show. After this 30 minutes with those smart cetaceans we could not see the blow again. We turned in direction of Akranes and we saw a minke whale. Unfortunately it disappeared quickly. The same happened two more times with 2 other minke whales. We went back admiring the beautiful landscape.

PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 14:00

Report from þruma II: We left Reykjavik when sun was rising and we ventured in search of calm waters of Faxa bay. As we left the harbour we could check out that the sea seemed to have calmed down enough to explore different areas than in the morning. We scanned the ocean but the only wildlife we could see was seabirds, as we could spot beautiful big flocks of eider ducks, long-tailed ducks, guillemots and many other birds. Suddenly, a group of about 4 to 6 white-nosed dolphins showed up! We watched them jump and surf the waves. It was a beautiful afternoon sailing. Unfortunately we saw no other cetaceans on this tour so we offered complimentary tickets to our passengers, so they can came back with us to have some whale of a time in future.
