Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 and 14:00 Premium Whale tours and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

PREMIUM WHALE TOUR | 10:00

Report from RIB : We went out under a light rain with wind coming from the East, so the way out was more comfortable than the way back. We were patrolling all around the bay, the visibility was not the best and it was difficult to search the whales but we manage to spot a minke whale that quickly disappeared. We stayed a few minutes to see if it was surfacing again but what appeared was a pod of 4-5 white-beaked dolphins. They were probably travelling but they came around the boat for a few minutes, apparently curious about us. There was a little one that checked on us a few times, coming under the boat and surfacing a few meters away. After a while without seeing them we went in several areas without finding anything else. The wind was picking up and the swell also when we were heading back. We gave to our passenger a complimentary ticket to have the opportunity to come back for free on a Classic whale watching tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: After a beautiful night of auroras, the day dawned with the sky covered with clouds and with light rain. Visibility declined throughout the tour, but luckily we were able to spot a minke whale and pod of 4-5 white-beaked dolphins that surfaced three times and that came to inspect the boat. We were able to enjoy their presence even though it was hard to follow them. It gave the impression that they were looking for food. As we believed that we could offer a better experience to our guests, we decided to give complementary tickets so that they can enjoy a free tour within the next 2 years.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The afternoon tour had typical icelandic seasonal fluctuations. From a somewhat calm sea, to a rough sea, from light rain to hail, and visibility from bad to quite good. Twenty minutes after leaving port, the first sighting was observed. They were a group of about 7 to 8 white-beaked dolphins. Beautiful, they all swam together as a family (pod), many times we could see them synchronously on the surface. A juvenile jumping left us with a smile on our face. After enjoying them for a long time, some (4-5 individuals) harbor porpoises were seen swimming while traveling. What adorable little creatures. The weather conditions did not stop us from enjoying the afternoon, it was another adventure in Faxaflói Bay.
