Report from Eldey: Merry christmas! In Iceland, the 24th of December is the main christmas day so we were very happy to spend this joyful time with our passengers. The conditions were exceptional: very low wind, almost no swell, and orange and pink sunlight colouring the sky. We sailed towards the area where we saw the humpback whale yesterday, and the ideal visibility made it relatively easy for us to spot when anything would come to the surface. After about an hour of sailing, we got our christmas wish: we saw a blow through our binoculars! When we got to the area we saw how big the blow was, and it was quickly followed by another blow even closer to us. There was quite a distance between the two blows despite the short time interval between them, which could mean one of two things: either this whale was very very fast, or there were two whales in the area... Soon after, we saw two blows at the same time so there were definitely two humpback whales! The whales were surfacing somewhat unpredictably, at times very far from the boat and sometimes much closer. The highlight was a peduncle slap when the two whales were right in front of our boat, a very special moment on this unforgettable day. We sailed back to Reykjavík while we watched the sun set, listened to christmas music, and told stories about Icelandic christmas traditions.

Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.
