CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was snowing when we left the harbour and the snow didn't stop during the three hours of the tour. There was not a lot of wind or swell so even though the visibility was not the best we could still explore efficiently different areas in the bay. We had to wait a while until we started seeing a higher concentration of birds. We slowed down expecting to see a cetacean soon when another whale-watching boat gave us the info of a minke whale nearby. We approached and spotted this minke whales a few times. We were happy to see a minke whale after many tours without seeing any! The whale was surfacing calmly and going for dives of a few minutes. This feeding minke was changing direction quite often making slightly challenging to follow but we still manage to have some good sightings on this beautiful whale. It was time to head back to the harbour. We still looked for cetaceans during the way back and spotted 2 harbour porpoises that immediately disappeared.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: For this second tour of the day the rain replaced the snow. It was a bit more foggy than this morning with similar swell and wind. We went to similar areas than this morning and there was a bit more birds, like razorbills and european shags. We felt like there was a whale in the area seeing it only with the corner of the eye but we could not find it. A few minutes later we find an area with very active birds and 10-12 white-beaked dolphins feeding with energy. Those dolphins were amazing, jumping and swimming fast close to each other and flanking . They were chasing some fish and sometimes it was bringing them very close to our boat for our great happiness. There was juveniles and a calve that were doing beautiful jumps just next to our boat. We stayed a while and decided to keep going, to keep a chance to observe another species. It was a good idea, we spotted a humpback whale! The whale went for a deep dive and we could spot it one last time before we had to leave. A very nice day spotting the four common species of Faxaflói .
