Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00, 14:00, 17:00 and 20:30 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00
Report from Eldey: perfect day at sea today, after a couple of days of very bad weather! All the crew (me included) expected wind and waves, but the weather was instead warm and enjoyable, with only some large waves hitting the ship. After being directed by some distant blows, we quickly ended up in an area rich in cetaceans: all in the same place we could observe minke whales, humpback whales and white beaked dolphins, all intent in feasting on some apparently very abundant fish, judging by the amount of animals present in tne area. We were able to observe some minkes and humpbacks lunge feeding, a particular feeding strategy which involves taking leaps just below the surface of the water, and one of the humpbacks sketching a breach. The dolphins showed some curiosity towards out ship, coming underneath and very close to it. After this beautiful show, we followed one of the humpbacks, and we were able to observe it from quite close, although it was still very busy feeding and paid little attention to us.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 20:30
Report from Eldey: We set sail to a beautiful calm light with a medium swell. The previous tour saw lots of cetaceans so our hopes were high for this one. The sun was dancing on the ocean and we soon found 5 or 6 white beaked dolphins! They came quite close to the boat and were very active and curious pod. Eventually they headed off and so did we, and very soon found a minke whale! This one was quite elusive and as we spotted something bigger in the distance, we went to investigate. We found two humpback whales! All three species were in one spot and the dolphins were jumping and interacting with the humpback whales! We stayed here for a while and enjoyed this rare moment before eventually heading back to Reykjavik.
