Report from Eldey: I arrived at work today basking in the most beautiful sunrise, and as we sailed out we still enjoyed the sun. There was still a bit of cold wind coming from the north but it is Iceland after-all. As i was still doing the safetly speach, we saw a glimpse of 2 harbour porpoises but they quickly moved on. Half an hour of sailing later, we saw a minke whale very close to our boat. It was a fairly friendly individual popping up a few times and easy to watch. We then continued on and saw one white beaked dolphin. This individual was much trickier to keep track of and when it was clear it wasnt interested we moved on further into the bay. We saw a few more minke whales, one was lunge feeding close to us and others popping up near and far. In total we saw roughly 5 minke whales and returned to harbour when we were due. On the way back we saw 3 more harbour porpoises which was a very cute send off.

Report from Eldey: We went out on similar conditions than this morning, maybe a bit less sunny but still with clear visibility and cold northern wind. We went more in the south than this morning and saw a splash far in the distance. It was a big splash so we assumed it was a whale and aimed the boat in that direction. After a few minutes we saw the blows of 2 humpback whales in that same area so we obviously continued to try to have a better look. In the way we spotted a minke whales surfacing a couple of times. We arrived to the humpbacks and saw that it was Mariupol and Neila. Neila seemed to be in a playful mood doing some pectoral slapping right next to Mariupol splashing his back. They went for a few deep dives showing us their tail. Around we also spotted a minke whale doing its life in the same area. But we were to focused on those amazing humpbacks to see it well. Once they reappeared right next to our boat, so close that passengers had to look down. One of the humpbacks made a peduncle throw and a tail slap before going for another dive. There was more boats around that arrived during this incredible scene so we decided to leave the area. We saw a couple of blows down south and went there but we could not find anything else. It was probably a few sneaky minkes. We went back happy about such a close encounter with one of the biggest species on earth.
