Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised. 

Report from Eldey: This morning we arrived to Hafnarfjordur and started our wildlife safari journey. The whale from yesterday was not in the harbour so we decided to go look for it outside of the harbour. Eventually after a some minutes we saw the first blow of the day and our first Humpback Whale. He gave us a lot of fluke dives and a lot of smiles from the passengers. After spending a lot of time with this individual we start to head back to the harbour and fortunately was another Humpback whale in the harbour. This one was lunge feeding multiple times and showing his lovely belly. The captain docked the boat and the whale was just a few meters away feeding with a lot of birds finishing the tour the best way possible.

Report from Eldey: To begin our tour we couldn't see our harbour humpback so we decided to venture out further into the bay. After about 25 minutes of sailing in strong winds but a calm swell (thankfully!) a blow was spotted in front of us. We found one of our humpback whales. This whale was quite elusive only surfacing once each time before going down for a dive. Once other boats arrived we decided to leave this whale so there was as little disturbance from boats as possible. We headed back to the harbour now as we heard another humpback whale was there. As we got closer we saw it lunge feed once. Then suddenly this whale was now behind us. From this point on the whale appeared to be very relaxed surfacing 4-5 times before showing it's fluke and heading down. It didn't move much throughout the time we were with it. This made it easy to follow and we had an incredible sighting. We could even see this individual under the water sometimes including seeing the striking white pectoral fins. Seeing two humpback whales on this tour was really good fun and everyone loved it!
