Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00
  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We started the day with a very very cold breeze from the northeast and a beautiful clear sky. As we were heading out to sea I spotted a big blow very far behind us. The captain turned the boat so we could get closer to it and check which species it was. As we got closer our head naturalist realized we were looking at a fin whale!!! This is a very rare species to see in our bay so we were all very excited about it! We spent some time with this huge animal seeing it from very close at some points and realizing of its true size (~ 20m!). After taking some pictures of the whale we decided to head back to port before the cold wind could freeze our faces off! It was a very unique and beautiful tour!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed across the Faxaflói bay towards the south to avoid the wind in front of our face, to see if we could meet again the Fin whale of the previous tour. Despite the sunny day and the swell less stronger we didn't have any good sighting, except for 2-3 harbour porpoises, busy feeding far from our boat. Many northern fulmars were flying anyway around us all the time keeping us company and few bird flocks spotted around the bay. We returned home a little disappointed but ready and excited for another chance as complimentary tickets were given to all the passengers in the hope next time will be more successful.

Bird species encountered today include:

Black guillemot, European shag, Great cormorant, northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, black-backed gull, glaucous gull, herring gull, eider duck, red-breasted merganser.
