Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey  for the 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: The sun was shining down on all of our happy and relaxed faces and we enjoyed a nice but very windy sail out into the bay. W sailed towards Akranes, a city to the north of the capitol. We sailed and we sailed and looked and looked but the whale were extra sneaky today. We admired the beautiful landscape with its majestic mountains and enjoyed some cool bird facts but had trouble spotting any cetaceans. But then towards the very end of the tour, when we were almost on our way back and had almost given up hope we found a small pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins with one juvenille. These dolphins swam around the area and one even slapped its tail repeatedly on the water. Unfortunatelly, we ran out of time and had to turn back towards the harbour. Due to the very short sighting of the animals we decided to give out complimentary tickets for a chance to come back again.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:OO

Report from Eldey: We sailed out into a strong wind, it almost felt like a wall against us. But this, of course, would not stop us in our search for cetaceans. On our venture out we still saw many seabirds. At one point we saw 4-5 flocks all feeding near each other but unfortunately no cetaceans were nearby for us to see. During the tour, we didn't manage to see any cetaceans as this is just nature sometimes. It is the beauty of whale watching that they are doing their own thing with no human intervention and sometimes this means we don't see any. Therefore, we gave everyone complimentary tickets so they can come back and try their luck again.

Bird species encountered today include:

Arctic skua, Arctic tern, Atlantic puffin, Common guillemot, Northern fulmar, razorbill, black-legged kittiwake, eider duck, black guillemot, herring gull, black-backed gull, black-headed gull

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out with a strong northwind and a few white caps. We sailed around an area where we had previous sightings. We were not lucky today and only encountered two very elusive white beaked dolphins. Because of that we offered complimentary tickets so the passengers can come back for free.
