CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey:  Sea was a bit choppy this morning when we sailed out to Faxaflói bay. After about 50 min we arrived to an area where we had seen blows before and there, to our enjoyment, were 2 humpbacks whales David Jones II and his companion along with 6 minke whales and a single seal and loads of birds. Truly a feeding fest for these lovely animals. David Jones came up couple of times to lunge feed and his companion rolled on the surface of the water, showing its white belly and pectoral fins. There were some harbour porpoises spotted in the area but not seen by many and surfaced only once before disappearing. Great encounters to start the day.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR I 10:00

Report from Hafsula: This morning we left the bay under the stunning sun and blue skies. There was a little bit of chill in the air, as the wind was coming from the north. We sailed for about an hour before spotting a big flock of birds as well as 2 white beaked dolphins! These two came very close to the boat, swimming alongside us for a bit. We decided to head out further into the bay and and were very glad we did. All in one spot feeding together were 2 humpback whales, namely Davy Jones II and Aang. Swimming around them was another pod of 6 white beaked dolphins and 3 minke whales popped up as well. 5 harbour porpoises joined in later. It was breakfast time for all these animals so we just watched on and enjoyed the show. When time was up we reluctantly headed back to the harbour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR I 13:00

Report from Eldey: Under a shiny sun we went back to the same area to see if we could find the same animals. After an hour of sailing we started seeing big flocks of birds and further in the distance the blows of 2 humpback whales. They were the same than this morning, still feeding and taking large gulps of water. It was Davy Jones II and Aang that were synchronized swimming, breathing and diving at the same time, as well as lunge feeding. In the area there was also 6-7 minke whales and we could recognize humpie with its characteristic dorsal fin. 4-5 white-beaked dolphins joined the party and one even jumped a few times. What a lovely tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 14:00

Report from Hafsula: This afternoon the sun was still with us shining brightly and giving us some warmth. This was only in the harbour however as when we left and turned into the bay we were greated with a cool wind and so our adventure began. We sailed for about an hour and then spotted multiple blows on the horizon. As we were approaching these blows, we saw a few more smaller and saw 2 minke whales pop up. When we got close to our bigger blows we saw that it was Aang the humpback whale. Aang was happy feeding, showing us its fluke multiple times and often coming to the surface close to the boat. We could see its pectoral fins shimmer through the water. While we were watching the humpback feed roughly 4 minke whales were spotted in the area as well. Clearly everyone was enjoying this feast. Just as we were deciding to head on as we had been with this individual for quite some time, it started peduncle throwing multiple times in a row. We watched on in awe and as it went for its last fluke dive we saw that as the perfect goodbye and headed back home.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 20:30

Report from Eldey: This evening we sailed out, still under gorgeous blue skies excited to see what the bay had in store for us. We had a great view of the smoke coming from the new eruption sight and lots of birds surrounding us. After about an hour of sailing we spotted a blow on the horizon. Then again and again. We made our way over and we saw it was Davy Jones II again! The humpback whale we have been seeing a lot of lately. This individual was busy feeding, it was a bit on the tricky side but did show its fluke a few times always accompanied by the orange and pink sunset. In this spot we also saw 3 harbour porpoises enjoying this midnight snack as well as 2/3 minke whales. When time was up we headed back to harbour, still with the stunning sunset brightening our way home.
