CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We started the tour under a very cloudy sky. We also had light rain on us at the beginning but nothing that could stop us from seeing these beautiful animals today! Not long after we got out of the harbor we spotted a small pod of white beaked dolphins that accompanied us for some time. They got quite close to the boat at some point so all of us could appreciate them properly. We decided to continue further away so we left the dolphins in seek for new cetaceans. Some time later, we saw another pod of white beaked dolphins. There were so many of them in the bay today! We continued with the tour and right before we decided to come back we spotted our first minke whale of the day! We got to see so many more after that one. In total we saw more than 20 dolphins and around 7 minke whales.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 10:00

Report from Hafsulan: We left Reykjavik in light rain but the bay was calm. Very close to the harbor we sailed past 2 white beaked dolphins. They were jumping and swimming towards the shore. Later on we had several pods of dolphins taking turns popping up around us. Further out birds started flocking, giving us a hint of were to spot more activity and soon enough 5 minke whale appeared in the area. We got to enjoy their company for a good amount of time before we had to sail back to Reykjavik. The sun came out on our way back.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Yet again, very good conditions for whale watching. We headed out into the bay in search of more wildlife. We came across many birds including the Atlantic puffin which unfortunately will be leaving us soon in this month as they head back out to sea having raised their pufflings. After sailing we for a bit we saw our first cetacean. It was a minke whale. It was lunge feeding! It was coming up and making some splashes as it fed. We got to watch this whale for a nice amount of time seeing it surface regularly. It even had a very distinctive dorsal fin, perhaps it is one we have seen before. We then carried on and saw another 2 minke whales. They were a bit more elusive this time. We now headed back running out of time but the sun was coming out after a very nice tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 14:00

Report from Hafsúlan: our afternoon was cloudy, but we could still feel the sun burning our faces. We sailed out and started to explore different areas, until we got to one with many seabirds resting on the surface. We then spotted amongst them a minke whale! That one was a bit elusive and hard to follow, so we waited for it to come up again but we could only have one more glimpse of it. While we waited, a very curious Northen gannet started checking us, surrounding us and flying so close to our boat, it was incredible! After waiting for this minke, we decided to continue our trip and after a while we spotted some splashes in the distance. This very big splashes were made by a pod of 8 white-beaked dolphins, but when we got closer to them, they decided to swim away. Our favorite animals were not very approachable and of course we need to respect that. So even though we saw different species today, we decided to give out complimentary tickets so passengers can enjoy our bay in its full glory once more.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 19:00

Report from Elding: We sailed out under the cloudy sky, thankfully it only started to rain as we got back into the harbour at the end meaning we stayed dry throughout. After sailing for not too long we spotted our first cetacean, it was a minke whale. It was quite a shy one so the white beaked dolphins in front of us stole our attention. They were jumping out the water and even came very close a few times to bow ride. We then carried on and saw another 3 minke whales. This gave us a good opportunity to admire this shy species. Next we saw more dolphins who were again acrobatic and very exciting. We then started to head home with a boat full of happy passengers.
