Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

Report from Eldey: With a beautiful day ahead, we headed out into Faxaflói seeking some action. All of a sudden, just after the safety speech we saw 2 blows followed by another one a bit far apart! We had in our sight 3 humpback whales that were doing some whale business. We started with a greyish humpback doing fast fluke dives with 20 seconds of interval between them. Great animal for pictures! We then focused on another that was swimming slowly and alongside our boat. We saw this specimen going extremely close to shore (as you can see in the pictures), which is a rare event! The whales were always on the move but there was one missing, so we decided to scan around in search of this lost whale. We found it near the buoy of Engey just swimming in a straight line but with the bow pointed towards the harbour. Maybe it went to visit the family I don't know but the important thing is that we managed to show 3 amazing cetaceans to our dear passengers.

Report from Eldey: Bright sunshine lit up the calm, cold bay this afternoon. We had barely left the harbour when we spotted a blow, and another blow, and another blow! Three humpback whales were in front of Viðey, one of them lifting his pectoral fins above the surface, almost as if waving hello. Two of the whales were busy feeding separately, but quite often they also took an interest in our boat and came within meters of us. Sometimes the whales came so close that we could see their entire body from above - a sight that we will never get tired of! When we left the two feeding whales, we spotted the third one resting at the surface. It was motionless, slowly drifting closer to the boat and sometimes taking a calm breath. We didn´t dare move the boat, but at some point the whale had drifted incredibly close to us and took a fluke-dive into the depths. We explored a bit further and briefly encountered a pod of 3 harbour porpoises. A wonderful day!
