Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

Report from Eldey: majestic day, full of sunlight, no clouds, wind or big waves - just temperatures constantly below 0. We started our adventure by exploring the area west of the cape of Grótta, trying to see if we could find any other whale than the humpbacks we observed for the past month or so. However, even though our detour was very pleasant given the plentiful sunlight, our research was unsuccessful, so we soon decided to head back and scout the waters around the islands in front of Reykjavik. That's when things got interesting: we didn't reach the islands yet that we saw multiple pods of white beaked dolphin, probably amount to a total of 30-40 individuals, resting and possibly hunting for fish from time to time. We were able to hang around them for a long while, being able to also come quite close, but then we decided to take the little time we had left to take a look at the bay in front of the city to look for bigger cetaceans. And there it was, the humpback whale of the day, taking deep and long dives despite the shallow waters. It was diving for long whiles so we could stay with it only a little bitty before having to sail towards the docks, but not before being able to observe it from up close while it was arching its back to taker a deep dive.

Report from Eldey: Today our tour was blessed by an amazing sun, almost no wind and no waves. Still, the temperature was below zero but we had cozy and warm overalls and also hot chocolate. So we went on a mission to try to find some cetaceans! About 1 hour into the tour we started to see some spouts and splashes, a sign of hope! And there they were 20 to 30 white-beaked dolphins gathered in a huge pod composed of 4 or 5 smaller pods. That's what they do in the winter, they gather a bunch of friends and hang out! We stayed with these cool dolphins for a while because they were very chill and also came really close to us and even bow rided! After that we came back to the shore in order to look for the whale we saw in the morning but nothing was seen, apart from great landscapes!
