Today we will be operating our Classic Whale Watching on our lovely vessel Eldey at 9:00, 13:00 and 17:00.  Our Premium Whale Watching tours have been cancelled today.

Report from Elding: Wen started our first tour in the morning with a big group of passengers, all excited to departure into a new adventure in Faxaflói bay. The weather was a bit could and windy, but that didn't stop the majority of the people from putting on some warm overalls, and coming outside to search for wildlife. After about an hour navigating into the bay, we came a cross a group of 6 white-beaked dolphins, who came close to the our boat for a few moments, as if they were curious with our presence, before going back to their lives, searching for food. During the entire tour, we were accompanied by a wide variety of marine birds, many of which, flew close to our boat, like the iconic puffin, the northern gannets, and the very cute, northern fulmar.

Report from Eldey: The sea had calmed down since the morning, although there were still some high south-westerly waves on the way into the bay. Despite some fog, we quickly spotted the fins of white-beaked dolphins that were probably feeding in a pod of around 6 or 7 individuals. The dolphins came up frequently, and often close to the boat so we had a perfect view of their bodies. We spent some wonderful moments with the dolphins, until they sped up and disappeared on the horizon. We were left in the presence of around 20 northern gannets, who were busy plungediving and creating big splashes. After admiring this largest seabird of the North Atlantic, we continued our journey to see if we could spot any more marine mammals further in the bay. Although we didn’t find any more cetaceans, we enjoyed the way back as we lensed with the waves in the company of lots of seabirds.

Report from Eldey: We sailed out for a new adventure for our evening tour! Despite the light rain it didn't take long before we were able to find a pod of 7-10 white beaked dolphins! The dolphins were in a great mood with 2 individuals jumping multiple times just in front of our bow! They bow ride close to us and great us gently swimming all together giving us a chance to truly appreciate their beautiful black and white pattern! After 15-20 minutes we decided to continue our journey in the search for more marine species. We were able spot in the distance a second pod of dolphins! We approached carefully the small pod however they didn't seem as interested in us as the first one so we decided to leave them to it. We started heading back to Reykjavik as the time was running out, but not without one last surprise! A third group of white beaked dolphins, about 4-5 individuals slowly resurfacing! We said our last goodbyes and we head straight to the harbour!
