Today we will be operating our Classic Whale Watching on our lovely vessel Eldey at 9:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00 and our Premium Whale Watching on Þruma at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 20:00.

Report from Eldey: We sailed out in another sunny day with a calm sea. We went into the bay of Faxaflói Bay with a great desire to see cetaceans!! Far in the distance we saw a shy minke whale which showed itself only one time. We continued our trip and we saw a huge blow in the distance, which means one thing... HUMPBACK WHALE!!!! The whale surfaced again, preparing for a deep dive, showing off its beautiful fluke. We registered the time, which it stayed underwater, spending 8min holding its breath and we had the opportunity to saw it up to 5 times!! Everyone was very excited to see it. We sticked around a bit more with it but we realised we were running out of time, so we returned slowly to the harbor.

Report from Elding - this morning we sailed out with sun shinning strong and calm seas. We cruised in between the puffin islands, the area that this morning was full of birds. In addition to many puffins we spotted many Arctic terns flying along and fishing. Just as we were passing the Grota lighthouse we spotted a blow of a humpback whale. We were able to stay with the animal for a while and saw it fluking multiple times. While we waited for the whale to surface between the dives a minke whale appeared on our bow, very close. Unfortunately we did not see the whale again. Afterwards we tried sailing through some other areas hoping to spot more animals until we had to head back to Reykjavik harbour.

Report from Eldey : The second tour of the day for the Eldey crew started off very good, with the summer sun still shining bright and an amazing visibility that allowed us to see all the way to the Snæfellsjökull volcano and its cap of snow. We headed North-West to the center of the bay on a calm sea with only small waves pushed by a mild northern wind. This is where we found our first minke whale! Surfacing and diving repeatedly, moving around at quite a fast pace. Fortunately, the minke whale stuck around our boat enough time for our passengers to have a very close look at it, for our great pleasure. Sure enough, only a few instants later, a second minke whale appeared, this time more elusive : we saw it surfacing a few times before it disappeared from our sight and we continued our journey. Some of our passengers got very excited to spot a group of puffins swimming and flying around with their distinctive adorable clumsiness. We finally made our way back to port under the same bright summer sun that kept us warm throughout the whole day.

Report from Eldey: We sailed out for the last tour of this day with a sunny and calm day. We had a lot of expectations because the sightings that we had during the previous tours and we went to explore these areas. Unfortunately we didn't have the same luck and we decided to continue on our way. Few minutes later, we had the opportunity to see a minke whale, unfortunately we only saw it once as it was very elusive and shy with the boat. We continued sailing and found nothing either, so we decided to give complementary tickets so the passengers have more luck on the next time!
