Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out bracing the Icelandic wind. We headed to the areas we last spotted the animals but although we visited a few of them no cetaceans were spotted. We continued on our search until we reached an area where other boats spotted a pod of dolphins not too long ago. Indeed, soon after we saw 10-15 white-beaked dolphins riding on the waves. To our surprise two humpback whales appeared out of nowhere in between all the dolphins. They were both very active and showing unique behaviours such as breaching multiple times, tail slapping and rolling around. We were very fortunate to get such an amazing show from nature this morning.

Report from Eldey: This afternoon we sailed out once more, excited to see what we would find. After about an hour of sailing we spotted a blow quite far in the distance - we made our way over and found our 2 humpback whales from the morning! They were still being followed by a pod of 10-15 white beaked dolphins. It was tricky to tell if it was multiple smaller pods as they were quite widespread but it was always roughly 9 dolphins with the humpbacks. It looked a lot like the dolphins were annoying the humpback whales but its always tricky to know for sure what is going on - it could just as well be playful behaviour! We saw both species quite a bit and at one point they were all super close directly in front of the boat, still interacting. With all this happening a minke whale also appeared at our 12 o clock as well! That means three species in one trip! We stayed in this spot for as long as we could before starting our return journey to the harbour. On the return journey we also figured out we knew one of the whales! It was named Hooker for its hooked dorsal fin, and now we know that she is a female!

Report from Eldey: The weather had changed slighty since the morning and now we were faced with rain! Of course that doesnt stop us or the whales so we started our adventure. A little bit of a different start this time with a blow from a minke whale! This was a fairly large individual and we got to see it a few times quite close to the boat! Then another blow - this time belonging to a humpback whale! It was taking much longer dives than before and even though it is such a large animal, somehow managed to vanish! At the same time we once more saw a pod of roughly 10 white beaked dolphins, that were quite playful and swimming around the bow of the boat. The minke whale kept us on our toes and would ofte appear again. Then our mysterious humpbacks turned up again, this time as a pair just as on the previous tours. We saw them show their beautiful flukes and then slowly started to head back to harbour, treating ourselves to hot chocolates to warm up.

Artic skua, Arctic tern, Northern fulmar, razorbill, black and common guillemot, eider duck, herring gull, black footed kittiwake, black backed gull, Northern gannet, Atlantic puffin,
