Today we will be operating our Classic Whale Watching on our lovely vessel Eldey at 9:00, 13:00 and 20:30 and our just as lovely Elding I at 11:00. Our Premium Whale Watching tour will operate on Þruma I-V at 10:00 and 12:00.

Report from Eldey : Our first tour of the day departed under clear skies, bright sun and blue seas, a perfect Icelandic summer day. Visibility was incredible, allowing us to see all the way to the Snæfellsjökull and the fumes coming out of the Reykjames peninsula. Just fifteen minutes after leaving the harbor, we already spotted a blow in the distance, followed by a second one : two humpback whales (!) gently resting at the surface, slowly cruising. We followed them for a while, and they gave us the pleasure to show us surface just a few meters from our boat several times, an incredible moment. They would sometimes dive for a few minutes, and come back again close to us. After a delightful almost half hour, we decided to give whales a bit of space and continued our journey, checking out the many flocks of seagulls, arctic terns, and kittiwakes feeding all around the bay. Soon enough, we spotted another humpback whale diving in the distance. We got closer and intended to follow it for a little while, but it was cruising at a high speed and did not seem to be in the mood for some human socializing. As we were making our way back to Reykjavik, we crossed a fourth humpback! We observed it in the distance for a little while before slowly making our way back to the harbor with a ship full of happy passengers :)

Report from Eldey - this morning we sailed out in lovely weather, with a mild breeze and sun shinning. We headed out into the bay hopeful for the good sightings and as we were sailing by the puffin islands we already spotted a minke whale. It surfaced a few times but was traveling very fast so continued our journey, especially as we could already see bigger blow in the distance. As we reached the area we spotted two humpback whales relaxing on the surface. The whales were coming up every few minutes multiple times very close to the boat and we could spend some time with them as we were the only boat in the area.

Report from Eldey: this afternoon the wind picked up a little bit but the sun was still shining on our faces during the whole tour! We started our tour and already seen some boats gathered around ahead. We went slowly to the area, waiting for the other boats to leave to not overcrowd the animals. By the time we got there, the area was clear for us to also check this whale out for a bit. It was a big blow that suddenly turned into two: wee had 2 humpback whales paired up! Swimming side by side and very calm at the surface, we watched them going for deeper dives. Everyone was amazed by the way we could easily track them through the surface by looking at the long and white pectoral fins. No wonder they're called the angels of the sea! We continued our trip, and we spotted an area full of birds. We spotted a fluke in the distance, indicating we had another humpback whale around. This one was very busy down there, cause it was spending quite a while under the water and also popping up in very different spots, far away from the last one. It was a bit tricky but we still had nice views of these animals. In the same area, we also spotted a minke whale, coming to the same direction of the humpback. We spotted them both a couple of times more, separately, before we started heading home. The sun was shining, the music was on and the sightings were exciting. Great way to end the weekend!
