CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 0900

Report from Eldey: The sun was shining as we headed out this morning. For some of the outward journey it was really calm but due to the northern winds tunneling through Hvalfjöðdur it got a bit rougher further out. This didn´t stop us from seeing lots of cetaceans though. To begin with we saw the blow from a minke whale. In this area there were many many seabirds feeding too. We saw 4-5 minkes here all coming up around us, sometimes really close. Whilst watching these we got to see some really cool harbour porpoises as well. There were 5-6 of them surfacing lots really close by. We could also see them swimming just underneath the surface. In this area was also a pod of about 6 white beaked dolphins. This included a mother and calf! Then we decided to carry on further out where another boat had found a humpback whale! This whale fluke dived a couple times for us which was amazing to see. Then on our way home we saw a second pod of 4 harbour porpoises. This brought to an end a great start to the day full of life.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon the sun was still shining and we headed out into Faxafloi. There was a cool wind coming from the North but we were eager to get out on our adventure. After about a 40min sail we saw a big pod of harbour porpoises! This was very unusual as they normally are very elusive and travel in small pods. This pod however was roughly 10-15 strong and popping up regularly and feeding all along the front of the ship! This was already a great start! In the midst of all the feeding drama 2 minke whales also popped up directly in front of us as well! We sailed on a bit and spotted two big blows on the horizon - it was 2 humpback whales! One of which was Neila, one of our regular favourites! She is a very curious and playful whale and it was so nice to see her again! She and her mystery friend stayed with us for so long, showing different behaviour types including rolling and showing us their gorgeous pectoral fins! They weren't alone as well as they were surrounded by a pod of white beaked dolphins! The dolphins were swimming and playing around them. This was an incredible experience and we were all quite happy to be out at sea on this sunny Friday!
