CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: What an absolutely amazing way to start the day! This morning we sailed out with little to no swell, and of course its Iceland - so some cold wind! We had a gorgeous sunrise behind us and ventured out into Faxafloi. Only a few minutes in we already started seeing harbour porpoises! They were all along our port side and mustve been between 5-7. We've been seeing quite nice porpoise encounters in the last few days! They can often be on the elusive side so its nice to get a proper look at them. We continues sailing and one of the other companies found a whale but as we have the whole bay we decided not to overcrowd this animal and sailed onwards. This definitely paid off as we quickly started seeing huge splashes on the horizon! It was a breaching humpback whale! What is usually the case is we see an unexpected breach once, and then not again for the rest of the tour. If we are lucky, there's sometimes another breach, this time we got extremely lucky as our new friend would not stop! We saw so many breaches that we stopped counting as well as some tail slapping and then later pec slapping as well!! We watched on while the humpback was showing off and then left when other boats were coming in. We quickly found another 2 humpback whales who were a little shy so decided to head back to the ones we didnt get to stop at on the way out! Here we found two more resting humpback whales, namely Mr. Bubbles and Davy Jones II! They were resting but came incredible close and it was a lovely end of the tour! During the whole trip we also saw 3 minke whales that popped up but often didnt stay visible long.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Today the seas were calm and the skies cloudy. It was truly a minke kind of day as we saw at least 6 minke whales all throughout the tour. One even passed by so close that we could see the white spots on its pectoral fins through the surface! Besides that, they also treated us to multiple lunge feeds as well! The star of the show however, was once again the humpback whale Davy Jones II. He came over to us and checked out our boat from all directions! Eventually, he started moving away and did a roll while doing so! Eventually, it was time to start heading back and we did so while sipping on hot chocolate to warm our hands.
