Tour at 1700

Report from Hafsúlan: This was an incredible tour. Not so many Minke Whales but the rain stayed off us and we found a Minke Whale practically in the harbour. It was so close to land, just milling around and enjoying the scenery no doubt. We stayed a little while with this minke before heading further offshore. It then took us a very long time to find any others except the quick glimpses of Harbour Porpoises. I then smelt something like rotten fish, i looked in front to see if there were any passengers but there were only a couple and none looking very embarrased so i thought it must be a Minke Whale. I got on the mic and told everyone to look upwind. There it was the Minke Whale we all smelt. We were able to get such a great look at this guy as it surfaced just meters from the boat and many times too. Two great Minkes to end the day.

Tour at 1400

Report from Elding: The wind had picked up a bit this afternoon. But again it did not take us a long time to spot the first minke whale! But when we got closer we saw that again we were being lucky and we had lot of minke whales around us. They were still being elusive but some of them came very close to us so we could all get a good look.

Report from Hafsúlan: It was starting to cloud over on this tour but we were lucky that it didn´t start raining till the end of the tour. Again Minke Whales and Harbour Porpoises were the main attractions of the tour however, not so many and quite elusive. We must of seen at least 6-7 Minke Whales and a brief glimpse of a small pod of maybe 2-3 Harbour Porpoises. We visited the puffins at the end of the tour at Lundey but there were not so many at home. Must of been all out feeding.

Tour at 1000

Report from Elding: It was a lovely weather for whale watching this nice morning. After visiting Akurey the Puffin Island we headed straight out to find the whales. It did not take us a long time to spot the first minke whale. This one came quite close so we could take a good look at it. Soon we saw that we had A LOT of minke whales all around us! They were being little bit elusive but we had so many so we could take a good look at these nice whales.

Tour at 0900

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather had calmed down considerably over night and so it was smooth sailing out in the bay. We started at Akurey and saw many puffins amongst other birds which are named below. We then sailed out offshore and was surprised by how quickly we came across Minke Whales. The best Minkes were at the start and end of the tour with time inbetween where they seemed to have disappeared. We saw at least 10-15 Minke Whales on this tour, some close and some far away, with our attention concentrated on abour 3-5 of them. It was difficult to know whether it was the same individuals we were seeing or different ones. We also saw two small pods of Harbour Porpoises on this tour but they were quite elusive so it was only a brief encounter with those. Great morning back out in the bay.

Birds seen on todays tour include; Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Fulmars, Arctic Tern´s, Arctic Skua´s, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Seagulls, Greylag Geese, Oystercatchers, Eider Ducks and Cormorants
