CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00
Report from Eldey: The skies were partially cloudy but the air was warm and seas were calm. On this tour we managed to get a glimpse of all four our main species in this bay. It started off with a shy pod of 2 white-beaked dolphins, followed by a second pod of 3, equally shy pod of dolphins and then a pod of 4 harbour porpoises. Not too long after though, we saw some big splashes in the distance from a tailslapping humpback whale! As we went closer, he did calm down his behaviour a bit but soon he was joined by another pod of dolphins! These dolphins were both curious towards us and the humpback and during their interaction we saw the dolphins swim up close to the humpback as that one was rolling around lazily multiple times. While doing so, it showed of its majestic pectoral fins and even the underside of the body came above the surface. Eventually their interaction ended and we found no less than 2 humpbacks calmly swimming side by side and going on nice, short dives during which they showed off their beautiful flukes. As we spent time with these individuals we spotted a minke whale nearby aswell and a second minke concluded our lovely morning tour when we were on the way back to Reykjavik.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 11:00
Report from Hafsúlan: We set sail into near-glassy calm water, not a wave to be seen on the surface. As we made our way into the bay, we quickly spotted a small pod of 2-4 harbour porpoises, followed by a shy minke whale passing by. Soon enough, we reached an area with 4-5 more minke whales who gave us a great look at them! Then, we continued on our journey and found two relaxed humpback whales who were slowly moving through the bay! We admired them for a few moments, and they gave us multiple awe-inspiring fluke dives. In between these encounters, we also spotted a pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins! On our way back to the harbour, we said hello to another relaxed humpback whale who quickly disappeared. Then, in the distance, yet another humpback appeared with a sudden breach! It breached three more times before calming down! What a way to end the tour!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING l 13:00
Report from Eldey: We left the harbour onto almost mirror-flat waters under cloud cover. The bay seemed especially calm and peaceful. We spotted our first pair of harbour porpoises very early on, the conditions were absolutely perfect for spotting these small, elusive cetaceans. We made our way deeper into bay, spotting multiple minke whales popping up and disappearing in the distance. One of them surfaced quite close to us, following what appeared to be a lunge dive just beneath the surface! Always very special to see these shy creatures up close! We continued on, heading for some larger cetaceans in the distance, and sure enough, spotted a pair of humpback whales. As we were following this calm, restful pair, we spotted a third humpback logging on the surface nearby. The birds in the bay were also very peaceful, drifting on the surface of the water, the whole bay appeared to be having a well-deserved afternoon nap. We stayed with the humpbacks for a good while, listening to their blows, and being treated to a couple relaxed fluke dives. As we headed on, we spotted some dorsal fins cutting through the surface of the water, a small pod of white-beaked dolphins! They were very inquisitive, coming up to the boat to take a peak at us, even showing off a couple of leaps. We stayed with this playful little pod as long as possible, before we had to start heading back towards the harbour. Even on the way back, however, we were absolutely surrounded my sneaky minkes, some white-beaked dolphins, and multiple pairs of harbour porpoises! What a busy tour!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 15:00
Report from Háfsulan: This afternoon we had an amazing tour. A few minutes after leaving the harbor, we encountered 3 minke whales. They were quite friendly for a minke whale, and we were able to stay with them for a while. As we continued sailing, we found a pod of 8 white-beaked dolphins. They were very playful and they even played with the waves created by the boat. Then, we spotted a few blows on the distance so we went there to check it out. It turned out to be a couple of humpback whales. They were feeding and every time they went for a deeper dive we could take a good view of their beautiful flukes. We went to check out another humpback in the distance that was bubble feeding. In the area there were a lot of seabirds feeding as well, some of them they were even plunge diving. Before leaving, we went to check another humpback that was doing some pec slapping. After saying goodbye to this whale, we started our way back of the harbor enjoying the beautiful view of the bay.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00
Report from Eldey: The seas were still as calm and the sky partially cloudy with a gentle eastern breeze. Unbeknownst, on this tour we were in for the most incredible spectacle. After some sailing we found a spot with around 8 humpback whales bubble-netting. with up to 6 whales at a time participating in a single bubble net and then lungeing out of the water all together. We got to behold one of natures most incredible spectacles this evening, with bubble nets forming often mere meters away from our boat. Among the humpbacks we could also make out a pod of about 6 white beaked dolphins joining the feeding frenzy, as well as 4 (or more) minke whales. This unbelievable show went on for over an hour, as time flew by and we then had to turn back home again entranced and saddened we had to leave this all behind.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 20:30
Report from Elding: This evening we sailed out onto a very calm ocean, there was almost no wind and a few clouds in the sky. On the way out, we spotted a pod of 6 white beaked dolphins. They were very playful and came very close to the boat. Then, we decided to go a little bit further out onto the bay. On our way out we saw a few minke whales and we could take a good look at them as we were sailing. Later, we found our first humpback whale, it came very close to the boat. Then on the distance we saw another breaching humpback. But when we got there, it stopped doing it. But at least we could take a good view of its beautiful fluke every time it went for a deeper dive. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to all these bautiful whales and go back to port.
