CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: With sunny skies and a light breeze, we sailed out into the bay excited to see who was feeding today. It was not too long until we spotted the blow of one humpback whale! This humpback was a determined feeder and so after a surface sequence we decided to leave them to it and continue our journey. We then had two pods (5 individuals each) of white-beaked dolphins! These pods were curious and came right up to the boat. It was amazing to be able to track them under the water and see them so close at both the front and back of the boat. We then saw the blows of another solitary humpback whale. This whale treated us to two really nice fluke dives before we continued on our journey. As we were leaving this humpback we had one minke whale do a quick surface interval for us. This minke was pretty elusive and so after another surface sequence we continued onward. We then cam across a pair of humpback whales together! It was nice to have two together and they gave us some really nice surface sequences before finishing off with two fluke dives. It was a bit busy around this pair so we continued onward to another pair of two humpback whales together in the distance. This pair of humpbacks were truly special as they came super close to check us out and kept circling the boat! We could even track their beautiful pectoral fins through the surface and got a nice look of all sides of these humpbacks. After many amazing views of this final pair, we reluctantly said goodbye and went back to port. What an incredible start to the day!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 11:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The sun greeted us once again on this beautiful morning, and under almost clear skies we made our way into Faxaflói. After about half an hour of sailing, we began spotting blows in the distance. As we neared our area of interest, we could suddenly see not one, not two.. not even three, but over five humpback whales scattered around in this rich feeding ground! Amongst them were graceful Northern gannets, plunge diving into the water with the whales' every move. We watched a pair of humpbacks bubble net and fluke, until a third one appeared out of thin air! We then moved on to find another pair, moving through the waves with ease. In this area, we could also spot two minke whales! These minkes were curious juveniles who came to give our boat a good look before moving on. On our way back to the harbour, we spotted yet another humpback and one final minke whale to end this amazing tour!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Although chilly, the sun continued to follow us during the afternoon. With many people outside and a cold drink on their hands, off we went to look for whales! The mountains were beautiful and their view kept us busy until we saw 2 big blows in the distance: we had a pair of humpback whales swimming side by side, that at some point were very close to our vessel. They went for a fluke dive and popped up on the other side, still close. The sun was shining and we could even see the little bumps on their rostrum through the surface! With the amount of boats, we headed to another blow not far away, only to find another pair of humpbacks! Everybody was with their besties today. These individuals were also very close and calm, beautiful to see! Everyone could have a great look of these whales. There were other blows in the distance, and we went to check it out. Another humpback whale was found, and we had fun admiring this massive animal! In the same area there was another, all of them enjoying the good weather feeding a lot. In the distance, we could see many Northern gannets plunge diving, making many tiny splashes. We started to head back when we realized we were running out of time. The weather was good, the sightings were great and we had a whale of a time!!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 15:00

Report from Eldey: What a gorgeous and sunny afternoon! The sun was warming up the bay and made the ocean glistening. A minke whale appeared quickly on our left hand side, but was very quick. A little while later two big spouts were seen in the horizon so we sailed towards them. It happened to be 2 humpback whales. They were very nice and we got some beautiful looks of them. We carried on and found another pair. They were getting close to our boat and the beautiful spouts created rainbows in the sunlight. As we continued our journey another one popped up just minutes later, and then we had two that came to investigate us up close. Meanwhile a third approached us from the back. Shortly after, two minke whales passed us by in front of the boat. They were curious and one was way smaller than the other, suggesting a young individual. A bit further in a distance we had a humpback breach and as we got closer it decided to stick with us for a while. During the tour we saw so many spouts in the distance and a few more minke whales. One of the humpbacks that we had breached all of a sudden right next to our boat, and was fully out of the water. It was absolutely stunning! Gorgeous day at sea!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00

Report from Eldey: With all of the lovely sunshine today, we put on our sunscreen and headed out into the bay. Not too far into the bay we spotted the blow one humpback whale! As we approached we were treated with a fabulous fluke dive! It is always wonderful to see that classic humpback whale tail. We then realized that there were multiple blows in the area, and so we decided to check them out. We came across three more solitary humpback whales. One was particularly active and started to pectoral slap! It was amazing to see their white pectoral fin fully out of the water. After multiple big slaps of their pec fin on the surface, they then treated us to their fabulous fluke. We then had a surprise as a pair of humpback whales started breaching! It was amazing to see their entire bodies out of the water! It is always exciting when our humpbacks start to do this behavior in a feeding ground.  There were so many blows around us, at least ten humpback whales total in the area so anywhere we looked we kept seeing blows and flukes! We then had another solitary humpback whale that came very close to the boat and gave us a bit of a 'boat inspection.' We had this humpback whale on our one side and another pair of humpbacks on our other side. It was amazing as anywhere you looked you could see humpbacks! After so many humpbacks, we felt incredibly lucky to be surrounded by whales, we waved them goodbye and headed back to port. What a great way to end our day on the bay.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 20:30

Report from Elding: We started our evening tour with beautiful clear skies and calm seas as we went into the ocean. After about half an hour we spotted our first blow in the distance, it was still far but as we got closer we could see more and more blows ! We got closer to the humpback whales and we watched them fluke one after the other! at some point a group of white beaked dolphins stopped by jumping and bow riding close to us, and 3 minke whales also joined the party! Then we spotted a big splash ! we rushed to the area and it was Davy Jones! It breached once more a bit closer and did a peduncle throw- very cool! Eventually it was time to head back home, we set sail under the beautiful sunset back to the harbour.
