CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 1300
Report from Eldey:
This afternoon the weather was nice, it wasn't raining and just a weak breeze. However, since we knew there were going to be high swells out there, we decided to try and go to the whale fjord! Actually, in the entrance to the fjord, we found a group of harbour porpoises. They were as elusive as always, but we could see them surfacing around the boat every now and then. It took us a while but we spotted a blow in the distance. It turned out to be a humpback whale. This individual was rather small and also a bit elusive. However, the captain told us that there were a lot of fish in the area looking at the fishfinder. So probably this whale was having lunch and we could even see the fluke once when it went for a deeper dive. We sadly had to call it a day and went back to the port since we were running out of time.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 1700
Report from Eldey: We went out to sea with just a slight breeze but quite some swell from the south west. We made our way past the islands in the direction of Hvalförður to find some whales there. After some searching we came across some harbour porpoise. 5 of them traveled together in a pod and at least 4 more were active on the surface in the area. We continued the search further into southern direction and finally spotted the blows of several larger animals in the distance. As we got closer it turned out to be three humpback whales bubble net feeding and four more minke whales also lunge feeding close to our boat. As if that was not enough, a group of around 10 white-beaked dolphins swam along our boat as we turned towards Reykjavik. All together it turned out to be a awesome tour with great sightings after a bit of a slow start.
