CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Sailing out this morning, we knew the conditions could be quite rough, but we knew that the chances to see something were quite good. After looking for a while and heading out quite far, we finally spotted  a humpback whale. This individual stayed calmly in the same spot, hovering around and coming up every couple of minutes to fluke dive. As we knew looking further around meant more rolling of the boat, we decided to stay with this whale, as we were sure that everyone would be able to se it well. Our next sighting has a minke whale that came really close to our boat and made us even happier. We headed back facing the waves,  but with the feeling of a job well done.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out on a sunny afternoon. After just a little while 2 harbour porpoises popped up to our right and surfed on some waves really close to us, allowing us to see their whole bodies through the water. This is something that rarely happens. A minke whale surfaced for a short time, but did not reappear again so we carried on our journey. We had 2 more harbour porpoises and another shy minke. Two white beaked dolphins appeared right in front of us and a little while later another pod of about 6 of them started jumping time after time. It created huge splashes! A humpback whale was seen breaching over and over from afar. As we got closer it calmed down, but all of a sudden - a BIG breach in front of the boat that surprised us all. After this one, it kept breaching throughout our whole encounter. It also did peduncle throws, pectorial fin slapping, spy hops, tail slaps and almost every possible behavior a humpback whale can do. It possibly breached 50+ times. As time was running out, we needed to head back. In a distance we saw another humpback whale doing repeated breaches as well! Although we did not have time to stop for this one, it was not necessary since it breached also 50+ times next to the boat. A fantastic tour at sea!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 15:00

Report from Elding: We set sail onto a windy bay, which became somewhat calmer as we exited the harbour. We came across a rather fast humpback whale quite far out in the bay. At first it was quite a challenge to keep up with this individual, but our persistence paid off when we got to see some powerful tail-slaps on the surface! We also got to see some beautiful diving. It then went on to go for some longer, deeper dives, and with the wind picking up and the increasing white-caps all around, it became quite a challenge to keep track of. We were treated to some seabird activity on the surface, it was clear there was quite the feast beneath our boat, also evidenced by a 2-3 sneaky minke whales appearing briefly in the background. Just as we were thinking about turning around after a challenging tour, four sudden breaches the sneaky humpback whale close to the boat. What a treat to end the tour!
